Mission Statement

The Alberta Real Estate Association is the provincial organization which:

  • represents the real estate interests of its members;

  • enhances their professionalism, competency and profitability, and;

  • advocates regulatory and governmental policies which affect the real estate industry and the public that its members serve.

The Alberta Real Estate Association was formed in 1947 to:

  • unify standards of the real estate profession;

  • promote interaction and goodwill among real estate brokers in the province, and;

  • assist in formulating legislation affecting real estate.

AREA’s Board of Directors and its standing and ad hoc committees work to improve and promote the real estate industry for its members in Alberta. This leadership works toward attaining a high level of professionalism and competency within the industry, among other stakeholder groups and the public.

·     AREA has the authority from the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) to develop and administer all required educational courses necessary to become a licensed real estate agent or broker in Alberta. The mandatory course to become a mortgage agent is also administered by AREA.

     A wide variety of education courses are produced and offered by AREA for the 18 hours of professional development required every two years by RECA.

 Real estate forms are developed and reviewed with the cooperation of the 11 member real estate boards to ensure they reflect the industry’s changing needs and trends.

·    AREA liaises with the provincial and federal governments on behalf of members, presenting a unified voice and monitoring relevant issues to create a better business environment for REALTORS® and the real estate industry.

·  The Association is also in partnership with Alberta Economic Development and AlbertaFirst.com, an incorporated organization of municipalities, in a joint venture to promote business, community and economic development in Alberta.

Visit the Benefits of Membership page for more details on AREA’s activities.

AREA members figure prominently in the economic, political and social fabric of Alberta. They were involved in more than $24 billion in residential and commercial real estate transactions in Alberta in 2006. Details>>>

They also ensure their communities are growing and thriving, while preserving the environment and protecting the rights of property owners.
